Next Art Fair Part III

Yup. This is an embroidered picture of a bleeding bunny. It's part of a larger installation piece that sells for $45,000. Here's a pile of pink sticks:



I ran into one of my old roommates at the fair, who I seem to be running into every time I go out. He still owes one of my other roommates $300 and used my hair brush a lot, leaving it covered in pomade. He was very friendly and finally admitted to being a horrible roommate. He then made a nice observation-- that the fair was a lot like what the Internet would be if it was a physical space-- overwhelming, dense, busy. When there's so much going on these are the kinds of things that get seared into your head:

Next Art Fair

I went to the Next art fair last night. It was the entire 7th floor of the Merchandise Mart. The show was pretty overwhelming due to its size and the art ranged from very good to god awful. First let's start with the good:







Some clever use of paper bags, with a not too obnoxious eco-statement.





This painting, titled Interior with Sunlight II, is by Eithne Jordan, of the Rubicon Gallery in Dublin, Ireland.





These paintings are by Kevin Cosgrove, another painter from Dublin. I heard the gallery owner say he's 23. Wow. They're similar to the Eithne Jordan painting, but from a different gallery. Hmm... makes me want to get to know the Dublin art scene.







These miniatures are by Tracey Snelling of the Tache-Levy Gallery, in Brussels. As everyone knows, I sure do love miniatures.


Even miniature strip clubs with videos of tiny strippers make me smile.

Special Finds

I started a "Special Finds" wall at work. These are typically photos of people holding a really rotten/disgusting piece of produce that they found buried way in the back of the store. People naturally want to stop what they're doing to show the found item to everyone around them. This just seemed like a natural extension of that phenomenon.



I think these are sprouts.

Haircut

I'm thinking about getting a new haircut and I've noticed that the young Rolling Stones (not old scary Stones) had some very cute lady cuts. I'm going to take these photos to my hairdresser:

Spring is here!

I just saw a chubby thirteen year old run down the street with a light saber, handcuffs, a Nerf missile, and a rubber snake. Spring is here.

Surgery

My surgery went really well. I had a few uterine polyps removed. It was pretty painless and I was doted on quite thoroughly afterwards. I took happy and sad photos because I wasn't sure how I was going to feel afterwards and I wanted to have my bases covered.



I even got a prize!

New Signs

Scott, the manager, said this was creepy. I guess so many of our customers are really old and don't want to be reminded of their frail condition.









I always wanted velvet theater curtains for my bedroom. It was really fun to make these.







This might be my favorite sign ever.

moe's birthday

Moe just turned 30. He looks a little sleepy-eyed here, but maybe it's because he had that Lasek eye surgery. I think it's analogous to how you can see vampires, but they don't have a reflection in a mirror. Lasek people look normal in real life, but sleepy-eyed in photos. Maybe Moe is a vampire.



We got Ethiopian food. It was delicious. Note: the part of Chloe was played by Tiffany this year.

New SIgns

These are the new signs I made at work. The regional guy is coming for a visit and my boss wants to spruce the place up.
